ROSE BOUQUET

This painting started as a "disaster" (maybe it still is?).  My husband said he liked the single rose and loved the detail.  After that it (the rose)became "precious".  I had to go back to the words of my wonderful watercolor teacher of long ago, Robert E. Wood.  "Nothing is ever precious in your painting, you have to be prepared to wipe it out if it doesn't work even though it may be the most beautiful piece of paint in your painting."  So, I didn't wipe it out but did loosen it up a lot and worked the background around it.  --Another no, no, as I should have worked it all together.  Ah well, I'm happy with it now and hope someone else will be too.

  1. It is absolutely splendid, one of my favorite in the whole challenge up to now. Beautiful work with your palette. The contrast between that blue vase and the pink rose is awesome. Good luck!
