The koi pond at the Mission in San Juan Capistrano is always a magnet for grown-ups and children alike. I painted a couple of views on location, but wasn't happy with them so decided to do one in the studio so I could focus more fully. It was still a challenge, but I was happy with the final result so thought I would post it. Let me know--I'm open to all opinions (well, almost all).
We're getting ready for our Paint The Parks show starting this Friday night, Sat. and Sun. If you don't know about it and would like to come, email me and I'll give directions.

Limestone Canyon-The Sinks

We travelled for at least 30 minutes crowded into the back of a truck over very rough trails to get to this location. It was well worth it! We were far away from civilization and could see no reminders of it so we were allowed to imagine how it must have been way back when. There was such a feeling of vastness that trying to incorporate it all in a painting (particularly a small painting) was quite a trick. This was a very unusual experience and I think all of our painters enjoyed it.

Black Star Canyon

This was painted on a trip out to Black Star Canyon which is located in Silverado Canyon. Our group was able to go under the auspices of the Orange County Parks Park Rangers as the location is otherwise blocked to the general public. They offer trips into these back areas, but the areas are protected so the trips are watched over by the park personnel. You can sign up for the trips by Googling the Orange County Parks. Also there are pamphlets listing all the trips at the OC Park locations.

This painting will be available at our upcoming show May 21 and 22 at the grounds of the Katie Willard Library, corner of Irvine Blvd. and Jamboree in Irvine, CA.
