WATERLILY REFLECTION

DAY 28 OF THE LESLIE SAETA 30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS CHALLENGE

Only 2 more days to go on the challenge after today.  The most difficult thing at this point is figuring out what to paint.  I pledged (to myself) to do flower for these 30 days and I am running out of inspiration and photos.  However, it has been interesting and beneficial.  I would highly recommend doing Leslie's next challenge for any of you who are painters.

This was from a photo that I took at one of the lily ponds at the Mission in San Juan Capistrano.  I wish it wasn't so far from my home as it always has a wealth of flowers to photograph along with the fabulous and interesting architecture.

Rose Impression #2

We just got home from seeing the movie "Seven Days in Utopia". Really nice movie with a parallel to art. Very uplifting.

This painting is of a rose named after Lady Dianna. It's been a beautiful strong rose with lots of blooms. I don't know if it was named after her before or after her death, but I love it. The vase is from a collection I inherited from my Mother. I've tried incorporating it in my paintings before but haven't been happy with the result until now. It's not 100% accurate, but is fairly representative.

On the Road to Black Star

I painted this last week while standing at the edge of the road leading to Black Star Canyon. The panoramic view was spectacular and it was a beautiful day. Doesn't get much better than that! The following day was cloudy and stormy so we felt we had been blessed the day before with the sun. Black Star Canyon is in the Silverado Canyon area. I hadn't been there before but it is well worth the trip. Actually I shouldn't recommend it as I didn't quite make it to the canyon as this scene captured me before I got to the gate leading to the canyon. Next time I will go farther!
