Alta (Lido)

I know, this was already on my blog, but I inadvertently deleted it when trying to upload the new (hopefully improved) version of it. I added more color to the man's shirt and felt that added a lot to the picture. Previously it was gray and rather dull. Anyway, this is a restaurant in Lido in Newport Beach that has wonderful food and great coffee. It is very popular!! I saw this scene from down the block at Cannery Paints where I occasionally take a class from Dana Cooper. During the day we get to go eat at Alta's.

Black Star Canyon

This was painted on a trip out to Black Star Canyon which is located in Silverado Canyon. Our group was able to go under the auspices of the Orange County Parks Park Rangers as the location is otherwise blocked to the general public. They offer trips into these back areas, but the areas are protected so the trips are watched over by the park personnel. You can sign up for the trips by Googling the Orange County Parks. Also there are pamphlets listing all the trips at the OC Park locations.

This painting will be available at our upcoming show May 21 and 22 at the grounds of the Katie Willard Library, corner of Irvine Blvd. and Jamboree in Irvine, CA.

Red Amaryllis

This was an interesting size to work with. The image is on a museum-style canvas 1.5" thick so requires no frame (all of my design-oriented pieces are on this type of canvas). When I was shopping for canvases they were low on stock so I decided to try this. Fortunately the amaryllis was well suited to this format. I've found the biggest trick of all is taking the final picture. With such a tall canvas the image wants to paralax (meaning at least one side appears bent) in the photo. I finally found if I centered the image in the window of the camera and made sure I was focusing on the dead center of the image I could get it right--had to take quite a few photos!! At least that is entirely possible with a digital camera!

Happy Callas

Wow! This is a change of pace!! Those of you who have been with me for a while (years) are familiar with my watercolors and the way I extend them onto the mat. This is a take on that except it is in oil. Ends up being rather graphic, but I love the wild color.

Avon Calling

This very small pitcher is part of a collection that my Mother got from Avon many years ago.  I always loved these pieces and thought the color and design were special.  I'm starting to do a series of small images.  This piece is 6" x 6".  The daisies are from a very prolific bush just outside our bedroom window.
