DAY 16 OF THE LESLIE SAETA 30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS CHALLENGE
This hibiscus was painted from a photo I took of the flowers at the San Diego Zoo. I know, I took some animal pictures too, but these hibiscus really caught my eye!! They were the most unusual ones I had ever seen and they were huge!!! They were growing near where the Flamingos are kept (in case you are ever there and want to see them. This was definitely a challenge (for the challenge) and I'm happy with it for my first attempt. I'd decided to try it as I finally had a day free to paint and I ended up spending most of the day doing the painting. Something easier tomorrow, please!
I tend not to like the grain of the canvas to show through so have found adding a layer or two of gesso on most canvases seems to help--sand after each one for some tooth.
