I had posted this a few days ago, but decided I was unhappy with the pears being green. I haven't figured out a way just to delete a picture and then replace it (perhaps there is no way), so I had to delete the entire blog and enter it again. The mat is painted with an iridescent white which makes the painting have a different "sheen" from different angles of viewing.
This was where we painted yesterday. This is a cultural museum called the Casa Romantica and is located in San Clemente, CA. At one time it was a private home for some lucky people, but is now a museum. It overlooks the ocean and the San Clemente Pier. The grounds are beautiful and there are many places to paint. Unfortunately for us they were hosting a wedding in the afternoon so we had to leave sooner than we would have liked. Hopefully we will go back soon!!
Wow! This is a change of pace!! Those of you who have been with me for a while (years) are familiar with my watercolors and the way I extend them onto the mat. This is a take on that except it is in oil. Ends up being rather graphic, but I love the wild color. 
I don't think my pictures do it justice, but this is a diptych of my memories of the desert and its wonderful sunsets. The colors are glowing in the original and I've included some of the desert vegetation in a whimsical way to incorporate more of the colors of the desert.
This rock is located in Little Corona, CA. It has been fighting the tides for as long as I can remember. I used to see it when I was a kid in high school and came to Corona in the summer to sunbathe (and meet guys). Now I just love to paint it. Now when I look at it, it transports me back to being a teenager. The whole area is beautiful.
It seems I actually am doing somewhat of a "series". I've always threatened to, but rarely followed thru. Does that tell you something?? Anyway, have discovered how much fun these little guys are to paint!

I really like these squatty little palm trees. They remind me of a palm tree "fireplug". We were in Palm Springs recently and saw a lot of these while there. I think I'll do a series of palm trees--they are fun and forgiving to paint.

This painting is another image from my trips to the Mission in San Juan Capistrano.
I painted this 30 x 40 original after one of our trips to the desert. While there the skies were magnificent (as they often are in the desert) and I tried to "explain" on canvas what I had seen or the feeling that those beautiful skies gave me.
I have a large group of callalilies in "the back 40" that volunteer year after year. These were two of the earlier blooms that I photographed and then painted.
We had dinner at a restaurant on the beach recently and were rewarded with a beautiful sunset which I've tried to capture the memory of here. The view was remarkable and so was the food. If you would like to purchase this painting ---
My husband and I went to San Diego last weekend to check out a possible show. It was such a beautiful day that we decided to visit the S. D. Zoo. It had been many years since our last visit and we were impressed with the changes--it truly is a beautiful zoo. The flamingoes were at their best and I got lots of wonderful pictures of them to work with. They are amazing creatures!!
